Film: “Girlfriends”
Please come see GIRLFRIENDS at the MV Hebrew Center on August 25 at 7:30pm with a Q & A afterwards by filmmaker Claudia Weill.
“A wonder of American independent cinema”
Claudia Weill’s delightful and groundbreaking indie follows aspiring photographer Melanie Mayron (for now doing weddings and bar mitzvahs), who when her roommate & best friend marries, is catapulted into a hilarious and painful journey of discovery. The film, which also stars Eli Wallach, Bob Balaban and Christopher Guest, has become a cult classic, a passionately honest & funny vision of female friendship which pioneered an entire genre about young women making their mark on the city- it’s hard to imagine Sex in The City or Girls without Girlfriends (Weill directed episodes of the HBO show).
With fans from Stanley Kubrick and Greta Gerwig to New Yorker’s Richard Brody who called Mayron “a young female Woody Allen”, how can you miss it?!
